Book Proposal

For this project we were required to flip through some virtual books on blurb.com. I found most of these to be digital photo albums that only meant something to the people who were in them, but several caught my eye. Most of these were a form of virtual visual journal that chronicled a place or emotion of the artist.

Thinking about journals and personal expression, I decided that I wanted to chronicle and share my life in some way as well. I am very fond of some of the work by Kelli Connell and how her photographs appear so natural and documentary in their nature. I didn’t just want a collection of photographs that would only make sense to close friends, family, and myself. I want my project to tell a visual story.

I began thinking about my favorite color, blue. I toyed with the idea of creating a blue book. Thinking about how many pages I have to fill though, I decided to expand into the entire rainbow (minus indigo, substituting brown). Noticing the correlation between 7 colors and 7 days of the week, I decided that I want each color to represent a day of the week. Each ‘chapter’ of my book will be titled with one of the days of the week and the entire ‘chapter’ will be filled with images that relate to my life of a single color.

I’d like to bring some repetition to the piece by using similar motifs in varying colors throughout. For instance, I am visualizing each chapter opening with a macro view of a woman’s eyes made up with heavy make up in that day’s color. I’d also like to find a car dealership and take the same photo of 7 cars of the same make in the 7 colors. I might have to Photoshop those in order to save time and for practicality purposes.
